GARNET. A deep red colour. We used to call it ‘Maroon’, until the 70’s took total advantage of the colour and we needed to rename it just to breathe new life into this stunner! This time around, it’s a little less bright, but equally warm and bold.
It is part red, of course, so it’s warm, earthy, and moody, and it’s totally sexy and luxe. Less intense than red, and not nearly as dark as black, GARNET stands, vibrantly, somewhere on the warm continuum of colours. It is a tremendous accent colour for pillows, throws, and wallpaper. It plays well in your kitchen when you include it into tea towels and placemats. It is a spectacular take on the traditional red for Christmas. Speaking of which, I have already determined that our Christmas colours this year are going to be RADIANT ORCHID and GARNET. I bet you any money, you’ll see this combination again and again. It’s easy to wear, and looks wonderful on every skin colour. Perfect!
Pantone has already forecast ‘MARSALA‘, a slightly lighter version of garnet, as a colour du jour for Spring 2015, melding with other subdued warm tones, and has described Marsala as following “…a minimalistic en plein air theme, taking a cue from nature.” What could be better than a streamlined, cozy, etherial approach to contemporary style that’s ahead of its time???
