This was one of our renos from our old city home. Dreamy, eh? This was everything our home needed…open to the backyard, more lighting, heating in the sunroom, and of course some serious lipstick! We used peppercorn stained cherry cabinets with a slab door and stretched them as high as we could to increase the volume in the space. We topped the cabinets with a modern style crown moulding to add the finishing touch. The polished calacatta bullet backsplash was chosen for my ultimate love of marble, and also for its length (which was intended to repeat the length of the galley style kitchen). If using natural stone, ensure that backsplash is polished and sealed. Natural stone is porus, and you want a protective layer between this beautiful material and kitchen mess! We used a deep (10″) double stainless sink and a beautiful single pull-down swivel faucet. Floors were heated (a luxury definitely worth splurging for…it’s clean, no dust, and heats up very fast), and we used a 24X24″ cream porcelain floor with tiny flecks in it for movement and interest. We included glass knobs on the cabinets and a decadent modern crystal light which had the most exquisite ceiling reflections. Though you can’t see from this picture, the wall for the banquet seating was painted a vibrant orange. A beautiful jolt of colour to enliven even the gloomiest February morning! This kitchen was tops, and when I do it again, there is nothing I would change about this! Modern, simple, elegant, and workable, with many extravagant finishes and details!
